SJR43,1,42 Whereas, because of the faith of many of our founding fathers, public prayer
3and national days of prayer have a long-standing and significant history in
4American tradition; and
SJR43,1,65 Whereas, the National Day of Prayer is an annual observance held on the first
6Thursday of May, inviting people of all faiths to pray for the nation; and
SJR43,1,77 Whereas, the National Day of Prayer is a vital part of our heritage; and
SJR43,1,108 Whereas, since the first call to prayer in 1775, when the Continental Congress
9asked the colonies to pray for wisdom in forming a nation, the call to prayer has
10continued through our history; and
SJR43,1,1211 Whereas, each year, the president signs a proclamation encouraging all
12Americans to pray on this day; and
SJR43,1,1413 Whereas, a day of prayer enables us to recall and to teach the way in which our
14founding fathers sought the wisdom of God when faced with critical decisions; and

1Whereas, this is a day that transcends differences, bringing together citizens
2from all backgrounds; and
SJR43,2,43 Whereas, this day stands as a call to us to humbly come before God, seeking His
4guidance for our leaders and His grace upon us as a people; now, therefore, be it
SJR43,2,6 5Resolved by the senate, the assembly concurring, That the legislature
6proclaims May 4, 2017, as Wisconsin Day of Prayer.
