SJR42,1,43 Whereas, Karen Bogenschneider grew up the daughter of a cheesemaker in
4rural Wisconsin; and
SJR42,1,65 Whereas, Karen started her career in Iowa County in 1972 as a family living
6agent with the University of Wisconsin–Extension; and
SJR42,1,87 Whereas, Karen earned her PhD in child and family studies with a minor in
8public policy education from the University of Wisconsin–Madison in 1990; and
SJR42,1,119 Whereas, Karen became a professor of human development and family studies
10in 1991, became executive director of the Wisconsin Family Impact Seminars in
111992, and was named Rothermel-Bascom Professor of Human Ecology in 2003; and
SJR42,1,1412 Whereas, Karen assumed leadership of the national Policy Institute for Family
13Impact Seminars in 1999 to assist other states in implementing the Family Impact
14Seminar model until 2014; and

1Whereas, Karen met annually with dozens of state legislators on both sides of
2the aisle to create seminars that were objective, timely, and useful on topics such as
3early brain science, prisoner reentry, foster care, and prescription drug costs; and
SJR42,2,84 Whereas, Karen was appointed to the National Academy of Science Roundtable
5on the Application of Social and Behavioral Science Research, received the
6President's Award from the National Council on Family Relations, and served as a
7governor's appointee to the White House Conference on Children and Families in
81980; and
SJR42,2,129 Whereas, Karen gave an invited address at the United Nations 20th
10anniversary celebration of the International Year of the Family and has been invited
11to speak to many national and international audiences on evidence-based family
12policy; and
SJR42,2,1413 Whereas, Karen has been committed to improving the lives of families in the
14state of Wisconsin and beyond for more than 40 years; now, therefore, be it
SJR42,2,19 15Resolved by the senate, the assembly concurring, That the members of the
16Wisconsin Legislature do honor the exemplary career of Karen Bogenschneider for
17her outstanding service to our state and her leadership of the nonpartisan Wisconsin
18Family Impact Seminars, congratulate Karen on her stellar academic career, and
19wish Karen success and happiness in her retirement; and, be it further
SJR42,2,21 20Resolved, That the senate chief clerk shall transmit a copy of this joint
21resolution to Karen Bogenschneider.
