Analysis by the Legislative Reference Bureau
Under current law, beginning the 2018-19 school year, the Department of
Public Instruction must award grants on a competitive basis to school boards and
operators of independent charter schools for the purpose of collaborating with
community mental health agencies to provide mental health services to pupils.
Current law specifies that DPI must award at least $3,250,000 in these grants each
school year. This bill increases the funding for these grants by $7,000,000 and
requires DPI to award at least $10,250,000 in these grants each school year.
For further information see the state and local fiscal estimate, which will be
printed as an appendix to this bill.
