SJR31,1,1 1Relating to: declaring May 2013 Drug Court Month.
SJR31,1,42 Whereas, drug courts have become an essential part of our criminal justice
3system and have reduced costs and rehabilitated individuals to become active
4members and taxpayers in their communities; and
SJR31,1,65 Whereas, drug courts allow for the collaboration of public safety and public
6health professionals to reduce crime, fight drug abuse, and restore families; and
SJR31,1,87 Whereas, drug courts have improved public safety, reduced recidivism, and
8addressed underlying issues that may contribute to criminal behavior; and
SJR31,1,119 Whereas, drug courts have proven an effective tool in saving the taxpayers
10money due to reduced victimization, reduced health service utilization, and reduced
11revolving door arrests; and
SJR31,1,1512 Whereas, drug courts help ensure compliance with treatment programs
13because of regular, closer, and more comprehensive supervision during the
14treatment process, and offenders are six times more likely to stay in treatment long
15enough to get better; and

  1Whereas, the number of drug courts has grown to 2,700 nationwide, including
257 courts in the state of Wisconsin; now, therefore, be it
SJR31,2,5 3Resolved by the senate, the assembly concurring, That the members of the
4Wisconsin legislature proclaim May 2013 as Drug Court Month in the state of
5Wisconsin and commend this observance to all citizens; and, be it further
SJR31,2,10 6Resolved, That the members of the legislature call upon our citizens to join in
7celebrating the collaborative efforts of our criminal justice system to provide a more
8effective process for addressing drug abuse and criminal behavior that saves the
9taxpayers money and increases public safety for individuals and the state of
10Wisconsin.
