AR18,1,42 Whereas, Honor Flights were created as a way to pay tribute to our veterans
3by providing them a trip to visit the memorials that honor them in Washington, D.C.;
4and
AR18,1,75 Whereas, the inaugural honor flight took place in May 2005 when six small
6planes flew out of Springfield, Ohio, taking 12 World War II veterans to our nation's
7capital; and
AR18,1,98 Whereas, since the first honor flight, the Honor Flight Network has grown to
9130 hubs providing flights to veterans from 42 states; and
AR18,1,1010 Whereas, more than 100,000 veterans have flown on honor flights; and
AR18,1,1311 Whereas, thousands of Wisconsin veterans have taken honor flights since the
12flights first began in our state in 2008, and hundreds of Wisconsin veterans are on
13waiting lists for future flights; and
AR18,2,314 Whereas, six hubs honor Wisconsin veterans: Never Forgotten Honor Flight,
15serving the Wausau area; Old Glory Honor Flight, serving the Appleton area; Badger

1Honor Flight, serving the Madison area; Stars and Stripes Honor Flight, serving the
2Milwaukee area; Freedom Honor Flight, serving the La Crosse area; and Honor
3Flight Northland, serving northwestern Wisconsin; and
AR18,2,64 Whereas, volunteers operate Wisconsin honor flights, serve on the boards of
5each hub, organize the flights, and raise money, including at least $600 per veteran
6per flight to Washington, D.C.; and
AR18,2,77 Whereas, an estimated 640 WWII veterans die each day; and
AR18,2,98 Whereas, honor flights are being offered first to WWII veterans, then to Korean
9War veterans and Vietnam War veterans; and
AR18,2,1210 Whereas, Honor Flight: One Last Mission, by Freethink Media, is an
11award-winning documentary that illustrates the importance of honor flights and
12pays tribute to our war veterans; now, therefore, be it
AR18,2,16 13Resolved by the assembly, That the Wisconsin assembly honors and
14expresses its gratitude to the Honor Flight Network and to its volunteers for their
15countless hours, passionate service, and unwavering commitment to salute our war
16heroes with one more tour of honor.
