AJR102,1,64 Whereas, Dr. Norman Borlaug is respected as one of the world's greatest
5agricultural leaders and has been known as "agriculture's greatest spokesperson,"
6"the father of the Green Revolution," and "the man who saved a billion lives"; and
AJR102,1,107 Whereas, Dr. Borlaug is revered for developing high-yielding, short-strawed,
8disease-resistant wheat varieties, which have been harvested in Mexico, India,
9Pakistan, and other countries in Latin America, the Middle East, Asia, and Africa;
10and
AJR102,1,1211 Whereas, Dr. Borlaug's agricultural methods have been used across the globe
12to help countries facing food shortages; and
AJR102,1,1513 Whereas, Dr. Borlaug was awarded the Nobel Peace Prize in 1970 for his role
14in adapting new wheat varieties and promoting their production worldwide, which
15helped improve the global food supply; and

1Whereas, Dr. Borlaug went on to receive the Presidential Medal of Freedom and
2the Congressional Gold Medal; and
AJR102,2,53 Whereas, Dr. Borlaug's ancestral roots connect him to Wisconsin as he is the
4great-grandson of Norwegian immigrants who came to America and first settled in
5Wisconsin; and
AJR102,2,86 Whereas, Dr. Borlaug was born on March 25, 1914, in a small farming
7community in northeastern Iowa and died on September 12, 2009, at the age of 95;
8and
AJR102,2,109 Whereas, March 25, 2014, is National Agriculture Day and the 100th
10anniversary of Dr. Borlaug's birth; and
AJR102,2,1211 Whereas, Dr. Borlaug's accomplishments in agriculture have been an
12inspiration to others; now, therefore, be it
AJR102,2,15 13Resolved by the assembly, the senate concurring, That the members of the
14Wisconsin legislature recognize the lasting impact Dr. Norman Borlaug's
15accomplishments have had on agriculture and fighting world hunger.
