SJR31,1,33 Whereas, the price of motor fuel in Wisconsin is at or near record prices; and
SJR31,1,64 Whereas, hikes in the price of gasoline are severely squeezing the finances of
5all Wisconsin working families at a time when they can least afford to pay higher fuel
6costs; and
SJR31,1,87 Whereas, oil and gas companies reported record profits in 2010 and have again
8reported record profits in the first quarter of 2011; and
SJR31,1,109 Whereas, the 2011 first-quarter net income of Exxon Mobil alone increased 69
10percent to $10.7 billion which is up from $6.3 billion one year ago; and
SJR31,1,1311 Whereas, consumers ought not be forced to subsidize oil and gas companies
12record profitability a second time with special industry tax breaks and incentives;
13and
SJR31,2,214 Whereas, the federal government is debating ways to reduce the budget deficit,
15with high ranking members of the United States Congress advocating for the

1elimination of critical programs for seniors and persons with disabilities like
2Medicare and Medicaid; and
SJR31,2,53 Whereas, eliminating the $4 billion oil and gas companies currently receive in
4subsidies from the federal government would reduce the federal deficit and instead
5help fund other priorities like education and health care; and
SJR31,2,76 Whereas, there no longer exists a need to provide financial subsidies to oil and
7gas companies; and
SJR31,2,98 Whereas, the money spent on subsidies is better used to reduce the deficit and
9fund programs benefiting Wisconsin citizens; now, therefore, be it
SJR31,2,12 10Resolved by the senate, the assembly concurring, That the members of the
11Wisconsin legislature urge members of the United States Congress to reintroduce
12and pass the Oil Industry Tax Break Repeal Act.
