AJR87,1,63 Whereas, Jacob was born on November 19, 1989, in La Crosse, Wisconsin, to
4Gregory and Barbara Gassen, and died on November 29, 2010, of injuries sustained
5when an insurgent attacked his unit with small arms fire in Nangarhar province,
6Afghanistan; and
AJR87,1,97 Whereas, Jacob was a 2008 graduate of Beaver Dam High School in Beaver
8Dam, Wisconsin, attended the University of Wisconsin-Oshkosh, and enlisted in the
9United States Army in 2009; and
AJR87,1,1210 Whereas, Jacob served with distinction in the United States Army 1st
11Squadron, 61st Cavalry Regiment, 4th Brigade Combat Team, 101st Airborne
12Division, Fort Campbell, Kentucky; and
AJR87,1,1413 Whereas, Jacob's family and fellow citizens are very proud of him and know that
14he died doing what he wanted to do: serve the nation and fight for freedom; and

1Whereas, Jacob embodied the Army's core values of loyalty, duty, respect,
2selfless service, honor, integrity, and personal service and he will be sorely missed;
3now, therefore, be it
AJR87,2,7 4Resolved by the assembly, the senate concurring, That the legislature of
5the state of Wisconsin commemorates the remarkable life of Jacob A. Gassen and
6extends its deepest sympathies to his family, friends, and colleagues; and, be it
7further
AJR87,2,9 8Resolved, That the assembly chief clerk shall transmit a copy of this joint
9resolution to Jacob's parents, Gregory and Barbara Gassen.
