AJR130,1,32 Whereas, colorectal cancer is the second leading cause of cancer-related deaths
3in the United States; and
AJR130,1,54 Whereas, the risk of developing colorectal cancer increases with advancing age,
5with more than 90 percent of cases occurring in people aged 50 or older; and
AJR130,1,66 Whereas, colorectal cancer screening saves lives; and
AJR130,1,97 Whereas, it is estimated that as many as 60 percent of colorectal cancer deaths
8could be prevented if all men and women aged 50 years or older were screened
9routinely; and
AJR130,1,1110 Whereas, colorectal screening tests also can diagnose early colorectal cancer
11and polyps; and
AJR130,1,1412 Whereas, the U.S. Preventive Services Task Force (USPSTF) recommends
13screening for colorectal cancer for all people until they reach 75 years old and for
14some people when they are older than 75; and

1Whereas, the following screening tests are recommended by the USPSTF and
2the American Cancer Society: a colonoscopy once every ten years, a virtual
3colonoscopy once every five years, a high-sensitivity fecal occult blood test annually,
4and a flexible sigmoidoscopy once every five years; and
AJR130,2,75 Whereas, the good health and well-being of the residents of the State of
6Wisconsin are enhanced as a direct result of increased awareness about colorectal
7cancer and screening options; now, therefore, be it
AJR130,2,10 8Resolved by the assembly, the senate concurring, That the legislature
9proclaims March 2012 as Colorectal Cancer Awareness Month and encourages
10enhanced awareness of and increased screening for colorectal cancer in Wisconsin.
