SR7,1,42 Whereas, Dr. Garrity practiced medicine for 40 years in Prairie du Chien, first
3at Farrell Clinic, becoming president in 1979, and then joining Gundersen-Ferrell;
4and
SR7,1,55 Whereas, during that time he delivered over 1,600 babies; and
SR7,1,106 Whereas, when the practice changed its name to Gundersen Lutheran Clinic
7he continued to serve patients there and ultimately took leadership roles in
8Gundersen Lutheran as chairman of Gundersen Regional Clinics, chairman of
9family practice for Gundersen Lutheran, serving on the board of directors, and as the
10hospital's chief of staff; and
SR7,1,1311 Whereas, in recognition of his wealth of knowledge, his service as a delegate to
12the Wisconsin Medical Society, and his compassionate care and dedication to his
13patients, he was named "Gundersen Lutheran Physician of the Year" in 1992; and
SR7,2,214 Whereas, Dr. Garrity is an active member of the community with direct
15involvement in developing the rescue squad for Prairie du Chien, membership in the

1Pioneers Club of the University of Wisconsin-Platteville, and as a charter member
2of the Prairie du Chien Historical Society; and
SR7,2,73 Whereas, Dr. Garrity retired in 2000, but continues to be an active member of
4his community, demonstrating tireless dedication to noble causes such as the
5American International Health Alliance program involving numerous overseas trips
6to serve the most needy in Ukraine and as a volunteer physician at St. Claire Free
7Clinic in La Crosse; and
SR7,2,98 Whereas, we are honored to have a doctor of such exemplary stature in our
9state; now, therefore, be it
SR7,2,10 10Resolved by the senate, That June 28, 2009 is Dr. Michael S. Garrity Day.
