SR12,1,2 1Relating to: supporting the Marinette Marine Corporation's littoral combat ship
2project.
SR12,1,63 Whereas, the senate supports industry and development efforts that have a
4significant impact on employers and the economic growth of the state and our region
5and, therefore, supports the marine industry and operations in northeast Wisconsin
6and Michigan's central upper peninsula; and
SR12,1,97 Whereas, the Department of the Navy has decided to cancel a split-buy
8approach and award a winner-take-all contract of up to ten littoral combat ships
9(LCS) using just one design and shipyard in fiscal year 2010; and
SR12,1,1210 Whereas, Marinette Marine Corporation is a competitor in this process and
11selection of its shipyard could mean that as many as 1,500 new jobs will come to the
12region in the next three years; and
SR12,2,213 Whereas, the Marinette Marine Corporation is currently building another
14LCS, the USS Fort Worth (LCS-3), scheduled for delivery to the U.S. Navy in 2012,

1and it has just completed building the USS Freedom (LCS-1) which was delivered
2to the Navy late last year; and
SR12,2,53 Whereas, representatives for Marinette Marine Corporation and Lockheed
4Martin are confident in their design and ability to produce the ships for the Navy on
5time and on budget; now, therefore, be it
SR12,2,9 6Resolved by the senate, That the members of the senate support the
7LCS-building project and encourage complete support of this project by community,
8state, and federal leaders to bring construction of the LCS to Marinette Marine
9Corporation for the continued growth of our region.
