SJR48,1,42 Whereas, on April 14, 2008, Lance Corporal Dean Opicka, of Waukesha,
3Wisconsin, a member of the Fox Company, 2nd Battalion, 24th Marine Regiment, 4th
4Marine Division, died while serving his country in al-Anbar province, Iraq; and
SJR48,1,65 Whereas, Lance Corporal Opicka provided faithful and honorable service to the
6people of the state of Wisconsin and the people of the United States of America; and
SJR48,1,87 Whereas, the people of Wisconsin mourn the death of Lance Corporal Opicka,
8a native of Casco, Wisconsin; and
SJR48,1,129 Whereas, Lance Corporal Opicka was a 1997 graduate of Luxemburg-Casco
10High School and graduated from Carroll College with a double major in psychology
11and history in May of 2002, returned in 2003 and completed a teaching certification
12in the spring of 2005; and
SJR48,1,1513 Whereas, Lance Corporal Opicka was currently teaching at the Wisconsin
14Career Academy in Milwaukee and at the Association for the Rights of Citizens with
15handicaps; and

1Whereas, Lance Corporal Opicka is survived by his parents, David and Donna
2Opicka of Casco; his fiancée Katy Bonkoski of Brookfield; his brothers, Daniel Opicka
3and his wife Melissa of Luxemburg, Douglas Opicka of Kentucky, and Corporal
4Darren Opicka of Camp Pendleton California; his godchild and niece Kayla, and
5nephew, Derek Opicka; grandmothers Magdalene Opicka and Leona Kinjerski;
6aunts and uncles, Dennis and Diane Opicka, Duane and Sharon Opicka, Dolores
7Gano and her husband Aaron Krueger, Margaret and David Zellner, Frank and
8Laurie Kinjerski, and Annie and Norb Zelewske; along with many cousins and
9friends; and
SJR48,2,1110 Whereas Lance Corporal Opicka was laid to rest on Thursday, April 24, 2008,
11at St. Adalbert Cemetery in Slovan, Wisconsin; now, therefore, be it
SJR48,2,14 12Resolved by the senate, the assembly concurring, That the legislature of
13the state of Wisconsin commemorates the remarkable life of Lance Corporal Dean
14Opicka and extends its deepest sympathies to his family, friends, and colleagues; and
SJR48,2,23 15Be it further resolved, That the senate chief clerk shall transmit a copy of this
16joint resolution to his parents, David and Donna Opicka of Casco; his fiancée Katy
17Bonkoski of Brookfield; his brothers, Daniel Opicka and his wife Melissa of
18Luxemburg, Douglas Opicka of Kentucky, and Corporal Darren Opicka of Camp
19Pendleton California; his godchild and niece Kayla, and nephew, Derek Opicka;
