SJR3,1,32Whereas, the right of privacy is recognized by the state of Wisconsin by Chapter
3176, Laws of 1977

SJR3,1,54 Whereas, the Privacy Journal has recognized Wisconsin as a first-tier state in
5terms of privacy protection; and
SJR3,1,76 Whereas, on January 28, 2009, the United States, Canada, and 27 European
7countries will celebrate Data Privacy Day together for the second time; and
SJR3,1,98 Whereas, the purpose of Data Privacy Day is to raise awareness and generate
9discussion about data privacy practices and rights; and
SJR3,1,1110 Whereas, Data Privacy Day promotes privacy awareness and education among
11teens, especially about online privacy; and
SJR3,1,1512 Whereas, Data Privacy promotes general awareness education among the
13public and the business community on allied topics, such as identity theft, national
14security, social networking, information security, data destruction, and data
15transfers; and

1Whereas, Data Privacy Day activities in the United States involve
2corporations, government officials and representatives, academics, and students;

SJR3,2,54 Whereas, privacy and information security is required of all sectors — private,
5public, and volunteer — under numerous state and federal laws; and
SJR3,2,76 Whereas, Wisconsin residents and consumers expect all sectors to safeguard
7sensitive information they entrust with them; and
SJR3,2,108 Whereas, Wisconsin desires to create a "privacy-friendly" economic climate,
9where consumers can live, play, and conduct business safely with a minimal risk of
10identity theft or of having their right to privacy violated; and
SJR3,2,1311 Whereas, Data Privacy Day serves the important purpose of furthering
12international collaboration and cooperation around privacy issues; now, therefore,

15the state of Wisconsin recognizes January 28, 2009, as "Data Privacy Day."
