2Policy Research Institute.
SJR2,1,43 Whereas, Jim Miller has retired after 21 years at the helm of Wisconsin's
4leading free market think tank, the Wisconsin Policy Research Institute (WPRI); and
SJR2,1,75 Whereas, WPRI research performed under Jim Miller's watch was
6instrumental in initiating landmark Wisconsin legislation like school choice and
7welfare reform; and
SJR2,1,118 Whereas, during a 17 period, WPRI has published more than 164 academic
9studies on state and local issues, including projects authored by leading academics
10from prestigious institutions such as Harvard, Brookings, Princeton, and Stanford;
11and
SJR2,2,212 Whereas, Jim Miller attended Fordham University on a Presidential
13Scholarship, did graduate work at Trinity College in Dublin, and served as a deputy
14commissioner for the state of New York, an associate professor of urban affairs at the

1City University of New York, and director of poverty research for the U.S. Catholic
2Conference; and
SJR2,2,93 Whereas, Jim Miller has an extensive list of political campaigns on which he
4has served as a consultant, including presidential, gubernatorial, senate, and
5congressional campaigns, and his independent research activities have included
6clients ranging from the Ford Foundation, the Manhattan Institute, the U.S.
7Catholic Conference, the American Jewish Committee, the U.S. Office of Economic
8Opportunity, the New York City Economic Development Corporation, and numerous
9political campaigns; and
SJR2,2,1210 Whereas, Jim Miller will continue at WPRI as a senior fellow, which ensures
11he will continue to be an influential voice shaping public policy and engaging
12Wisconsinites on the important issues of the day; now, therefore, be it
SJR2,2,15 13Resolved by the senate, the assembly concurring, That the members of the
14Wisconsin legislature commend Jim Miller on the occasion of his retirement as
15president of the Wisconsin Policy Research Institute.
