2009 - 2010 LEGISLATURE
May 14, 2009 - Introduced by Senator Ellis, by request of Megan Stine. Referred
to Committee on Small Business, Emergency Preparedness, Technical
Colleges, and Consumer Protection.
SB201,1,2 1An Act to repeal 218.0116 (1) (k) of the statutes; relating to: permitting motor
2vehicle dealers to remain open for business on Sunday.
Analysis by the Legislative Reference Bureau
Under current law, the Department of Transportation (DOT) licenses motor
vehicle dealers, and no person may engage in business as a motor vehicle dealer
without a license issued by DOT. DOT may suspend, revoke, or deny a motor vehicle
dealer's license if the dealer remains open for business on Sunday to buy, sell, or lease
motor vehicles, unless the dealer recognizes Saturday as the Sabbath and is closed
on that day.
This bill repeals this provision, thereby permitting motor vehicle dealers to
remain open for business on Sunday.
The people of the state of Wisconsin, represented in senate and assembly, do
enact as follows:
SB201, s. 1 3Section 1. 218.0116 (1) (k) of the statutes is repealed.
SB201,1,44 (End)
