AJR88,1,32 Whereas, Jay W. Johnson was born on September 30, 1943, in Bessemer,
3Michigan, and died on October 17, 2009, in Bristow, Virginia; and
AJR88,1,54 Whereas, Mr. Johnson earned a B.A. degree from Northern Michigan
5University in 1965 and an M.A. degree from Michigan State University in 1970; and
AJR88,1,76 Whereas, Mr. Johnson was a Vietnam era veteran, serving in the U.S. Army
7from 1966 to 1968; and
AJR88,1,108 Whereas, Mr. Johnson spent 32 years as a journalist, including serving as news
9anchor at WFRV-TV from 1980 to 1986 and at WLUK-TV from 1987 until his
10election to Congress; and
AJR88,1,1211 Whereas, Mr. Johnson was elected to the U.S. House of Representatives in 1996
12and served in the 105th Congress; and
AJR88,1,1413 Whereas, in August 1999, Mr. Johnson was nominated as director of the U.S.
14Mint by President Bill Clinton and served until August 2001; now, therefore, be it

1Resolved by the assembly, the senate concurring, That the members of the
2Wisconsin legislature commend the devoted public service that Jay W. Johnson
3contributed to this state and his community, express their sorrow at his death, and
4extend their condolences to his family and friends; and, be it further
AJR88,2,6 5Resolved, That the assembly chief clerk shall provide a copy of this joint
6resolution to Mr. Johnson's wife, JoLee.
