2Wisconsin Nurses Association.
AJR81,1,53 Whereas, October 22, 2009, marks the official beginning of a year-long
4celebration commemorating the 100th anniversary of the Wisconsin Nurses
5Association; and
AJR81,1,76 Whereas, this historic event will be recognized during a year of observances at
7both the 2009 and 2010 Annual Wisconsin Nurses Association Conventions; and
AJR81,1,98 Whereas, after the Association was incorporated, 94 nurses attended the first
9Wisconsin Nurses Association meeting at the Pfister Hotel on March 31, 1910; and
AJR81,1,1210 Whereas, the WNA nurses, all of whom were women and did not have the legal
11right to vote, successfully lobbied the legislature for licensure of nurses as a means
12of protecting the public; and
AJR81,1,1513 Whereas, many of Wisconsin's registered nurses have served in the military,
14past and present, and are continually vigilant and ready to respond when called for
15a war, conflict, or national emergency; and

1Whereas, many thousands of Wisconsin nurses have cared for, nurtured, and
2served the residents of this state, thereby improving the health of Wisconsin's
3citizens; and
AJR81,2,64 Whereas, the Wisconsin Nurses Association has provided significant
5leadership in providing diverse and creative educational activities to enhance the
6skills and abilities of professional nurses; and
AJR81,2,97 Whereas, the Wisconsin Nurses Association has acted as the leader in assuring
8the passage of public policy that supports healthy communities; now, therefore, be

AJR81,2,13 10Resolved by the assembly, the senate concurring, That the legislature
11commemorates the 100th anniversary of the Wisconsin Nurses Association and
12congratulates the Association for serving as the voice of registered nurses in this
13state for the past 100 years.
