AJR71,1,1 1Relating to: the H1N1 virus and its impact on Wisconsin.
AJR71,1,42 Whereas, 2009 Pandemic H1N1 influenza, the illness commonly referred to as
3"Swine Flu," is a combination of human and animal strains of the influenza virus;
4and
AJR71,1,75 Whereas, according to the U.S. Centers for Disease Control and Prevention
6(CDC) and the U.S. Department of Homeland Security (DHS), human beings cannot
7contract H1N1 influenza from eating pork products; and
AJR71,1,88 Whereas, eating properly handled and cooked pork products is safe; and
AJR71,1,109 Whereas, the 2009 H1N1 influenza virus is a human influenza virus that is
10spread from human to human; and
AJR71,1,1211 Whereas, the U.S. Centers for Disease Control and Prevention and the World
12Health Organization have both pledged to cease using the term "Swine Flu"; and
AJR71,1,1413 Whereas, pork production is a major component of Wisconsin's economic health,
14with an economic footprint of $200 million dollars annually; and

1Whereas, continued use of the term "Swine Flu" is damaging to both
2Wisconsin's pork industry, as well as to the state as a whole; now, therefore, be it
AJR71,2,6 3Resolved by the assembly, the senate concurring, That the members of the
4Wisconsin state legislature hereby urge all state agencies, their representatives, and
5all private media outlets to cease using the term "Swine Flu" and further urge them
6to use the term "2009 H1N1 Influenza" in its place.
