AJR41,1,1 1Relating to: declaring June as Scoliosis Awareness Month.
AJR41,1,42 Whereas, we must work to increase public awareness about scoliosis, which is
3an abnormal curvature of the spine that affects an estimated six million people in the
4United States; and
AJR41,1,75 Whereas, the effects of scoliosis, which can include prolonged periods of pain,
6limited activity and mobility, and reduced respiratory function can have a profound
7impact on a person's quality of life; and
AJR41,1,118 Whereas, the average onset for scoliosis is ten to fifteen years of age, and
9although a cure for scoliosis has yet to be found, early detection through screening
10programs, treatment methods, pain management, or patient care may help to
11alleviate its worst effects; and
AJR41,1,1412 Whereas, every child, regardless of race, creed, or socio-economic status,
13deserves equal opportunity for early detection of scoliosis and the least invasive,
14least costly, and most effective treatment options possible; and

1Whereas, we must continue to work to the find the cause, new methods of
2prevention, and ultimately, the cure for scoliosis in order to eliminate the confusion
3that families have about the best course of treatment; and
AJR41,2,74 Whereas, as we observe national Scoliosis Awareness Month in June, we renew
5our commitment to raising awareness of its serious impact in the hopes that one day
6our efforts will ultimately reduce its physical, emotional, and financial burdens; now
7therefore, be it
AJR41,2,9 8Resolved by the assembly, the senate concurring, That the members of the
9Wisconsin legislature declare the month of June to be Scoliosis Awareness Month.
