AJR132,1,1 1Relating to: the life and public service of Verna Manders-Mandli.
AJR132,1,32 Whereas, Verna Manders-Mandli was born on April 10, 1920, in Green Bay,
3Wisconsin, and died on April 1, 2010, in Milwaukee, Wisconsin; and
AJR132,1,64 Whereas, Mrs. Manders-Mandli graduated from West De Pere High School,
5and attended the Green Bay Vocational School (now Northeast Wisconsin Technical
6College); and
AJR132,1,87 Whereas, Mrs. Manders-Mandli met and married Adrian Manders and
8together they raised two remarkable children; and
AJR132,1,149 Whereas, Mrs. Manders-Mandli was president of the Holy Rosary Society of
10Saint Ignatius Church. She worked at AC Spark Plug during the war, at Struvey's
11popcorn factory in De Pere, at Sears on Milwaukee's famous Mitchell Street in the
12gift wrapping department, at the Pfister Hotel as a banquette waitress, in the
13kitchen of the County Hospital, and as a crossing guard, and held many other varied
14and enjoyable positions; and

1Whereas, Mrs. Manders-Mandli became a widow in 1967 and ran for her then
2recently deceased husband's legislative seat and received 1,176 votes to Joseph
3Czerwinski's 1,157 votes on September 12, 1967, defeating her challenger by only 19
4votes in the special primary election; and
AJR132,2,75 Whereas, Mrs. Manders-Mandli was elected to the Wisconsin assembly in an
6October 1967 special election to serve out the remainder of her late husband Adrian's
7legislative term in Milwaukee's 8th Assembly District; and
AJR132,2,108 Whereas, during her tenure in the legislature, Mrs. Manders-Mandli was a
9member of the Committee on Excise and Fees and of the Committee on Veterans and
10Military Affairs; and
AJR132,2,1311 Whereas, Mrs. Manders-Mandli introduced one bill: 1967 Assembly Bill 1080,
12regarding the limitation of time for notice of assessment on income tax. The bill
13failed to pass; now, therefore, be it
AJR132,2,18 14Resolved by the assembly, the senate concurring, That the members of the
15Wisconsin legislature commend the devoted public service that Verna
16Manders-Mandli contributed to this state and her community, express their sorrow
17at her death, and extend their condolences to her family and friends; and, be it
18further
AJR132,2,21 19Resolved, That the assembly chief clerk shall provide a copy of this joint
20resolution to Mrs. Manders-Mandli's son, Patrick Manders, and daughter, Jackie
21Hittman.
