AJR104,1,52 Whereas, Sergeant Nickolas A. Mueller was born in Appleton, Wisconsin, on
3June 21, 1983, to Larry and Sharon Mueller, and died on October 26, 2009, in a
4helicopter crash while on active duty in the Badghis Province of northwestern
5Afghanistan; and
AJR104,1,96 Whereas, Nickolas graduated from Little Chute High School in 2002, where he
7was a member of the football, wrestling, and track teams, played saxophone in the
8band, participated in choir and musicals, and was elected homecoming king by his
9classmates; and
AJR104,1,1310 Whereas, Nickolas joined the Army in June 2004, following in the footsteps of
11his grandfather, father, and uncles who also served, attended basic training at Fort
12Jackson, South Carolina, and advanced individual training at Fort Eustis, Virginia;
13and
AJR104,2,214 Whereas, Nickolas served with the 252nd Aviation Battalion at Camp
15Humphries, South Korea, and later as a member of the U.S. Army's 160th Special

1Operations Aviation Regiment and a crew chief on a Chinook helicopter at Hunter
2Army Airfield in Savannah, Georgia; and
AJR104,2,43 Whereas, Nickolas reenlisted in the Army twice and was on his third
4deployment to Afghanistan; and
AJR104,2,105 Whereas, Nickolas served with distinction, earning numerous awards
6including the Noncommissioned Officer Professional Development Ribbon, Army
7Service Ribbon, Overseas Service Ribbon, Combat Action Badge, Basic Aviation
8Badge, Army Good Conduct Medal, National Defense Service Medal, Korean
9Defense Service Medal, Global War on Terrorism Service Medal, two Meritorious
10Service Medals, five Air Medals, and three Bronze Star Medals; and
AJR104,2,1211 Whereas, Nickolas was known by family and friends as an energetic, kind,
12generous, and gregarious person who deeply loved the country he called home; and
AJR104,2,1513 Whereas, Nickolas touched the lives of many people in his community, and was
14mourned by thousands at a memorial service in Little Chute on November 7, 2009;
15and
AJR104,2,1816 Whereas, Nickolas is survived by his parents, Larry and Sharon Mueller of
17Little Chute; his brother, John and his wife, Stefani; and his girlfriend, Heather
18Huckett, all of whom he loved dearly; and
AJR104,2,2319 Whereas, Nickolas was laid to rest at Arlington National Cemetery on
20November 16, 2009, courageously served the people and the state of Wisconsin and
21the United States of America and made the ultimate sacrifice for his country to
22protect our freedom and way of life, while advancing the blessings of liberty and
23democracy to the Afghani people; now, therefore, be it
AJR104,3,2 24Resolved by the assembly, the senate concurring, That the members of the
25Wisconsin state legislature hereby commend Nickolas Mueller for his exemplary life,

1express their sorrow at his death, and extend sincere condolences to his family,
2friends, and colleagues; and
AJR104,3,5 3Be it further resolved, That the assembly chief clerk shall transmit a copy of
4this joint resolution to Larry and Sharon Mueller, John and Stefani Mueller, and
5Heather Huckett.
