3February 8, 1910, inspired by Robert Baden-Powell's Scout Movement in England;

6James West, the Boy Scouts of America expanded rapidly, absorbing similar
7organizations, and 17-year-old Arthur Rose Eldred of New York became the first
8Eagle Scout in 1912; and

10first and second world wars, collecting scrap metal, carrying messages, and selling

5Scout, Anthony Thomas of Lakeville, Minnesota; and

7Oath: "On my honor I will do my best to do my duty to God and my country and to
8obey the Scout Law; to help other people at all times; to keep myself physically
9strong, mentally awake, and morally straight"; and

11courteous, kind, obedient, cheerful, thrifty, brave, clean, and reverent"; and
