2Korean War Armistice Day.
Analysis by the Legislative Reference Bureau
Current law gives the governor authority to set aside, by proclamation, certain
days of the year to remember or honor specific groups or concerns. For example, the
governor issues a proclamation for Labor Day, Mother's Day, Wonderful Wisconsin
Week, Veteran Recognition Week, POW-MIA Recognition Day, and Purple Heart
Day.
This bill designates July 27, the date of the military armistice agreement that
ended the Korean War, as "Korean War Armistice Day," and requires the governor
to issue a proclamation for the observation of that day, asking the public to
contemplate the sacrifices that members of the U.S. armed forces made during the
Korean War.
The people of the state of Wisconsin, represented in senate and assembly, do
enact as follows:
AB98, s. 1 3Section 1. 14.16 (15) of the statutes is created to read:
AB98,2,64 14.16 (15) Korean War Armistice Day. To recognize the Wisconsin armed
5forces members who courageously served during the Korean War, July 27, the date

1of the military armistice agreement that ended that war, is designated as the
2"Korean War Armistice Day." The governor shall issue annually a suitable
3proclamation for the observance of "Korean War Armistice Day" and request that
4some portion of the day be used for solemn contemplation on the sacrifices that
5members of the U.S. armed forces made during that war, including the death of over
6700 Wisconsin citizens.
