AB19,1,2 1An Act to create 100.58 of the statutes; relating to: requiring certain motor
2vehicle radios to include weather radio systems.
Analysis by the Legislative Reference Bureau
This bill prohibits any person in the business of selling or installing vehicle
radios from selling or installing a vehicle radio manufactured after January 1, 2011,
unless the vehicle radio includes a weather radio system. This prohibition does not
apply to any vehicle radio that is original equipment in a new vehicle. A person who
violates this prohibition is subject to a forfeiture not exceeding $200.
The people of the state of Wisconsin, represented in senate and assembly, do
enact as follows:
AB19, s. 1 3Section 1. 100.58 of the statutes is created to read:
AB19,1,4 4100.58 Weather radios in motor vehicles. (1) In this section:
AB19,1,65 (a) "Vehicle radio" means a radio designed to be installed or mounted in a motor
6vehicle.
AB19,2,37 (b) "Weather radio system" means a receiver or scanner that is capable of
8receiving weather-related emergency broadcasts and that complies with the

2designed to receive all hazard alert signals broadcast by the national oceanic and
3atmospheric administration's weather radio network.
AB19,2,6 4(2) No person in the business of selling or installing vehicle radios may sell or
5install in this state a vehicle radio manufactured after January 1, 2011, unless the
6vehicle radio includes a weather radio system.
AB19,2,8 7(3) This section does not apply to any vehicle radio installed or mounted as
8original equipment in a new vehicle.
