SR31,1,42 Whereas, Ernesto Chacon, formerly of Texas, presently of Milwaukee, is
3retiring on Friday after five years as a staff member in Governor Doyle's Milwaukee
4office; and
SR31,1,75 Whereas, he currently serves as president and director of the Federation for
6Civic Action, a Latino and low-income civil rights organization based in Milwaukee;
7and
SR31,1,9 8Whereas, he is a former director and president of the Latin American Union for
9Civil Rights in Milwaukee; and
SR31,1,12 10Whereas, he organized a series of protests which led to the creation of the
11Spanish Speaking Outreach Institute at the University of Wisconsin-Milwaukee;
12and
SR31,1,13 13Whereas, he co-founded Milwaukee's Mexican Fiesta in 1977; and
SR31,1,1514 Whereas, he is a recipient of the UMOS Lifetime Achievement Award and the
15Spanish Times Latino Leader of the Year Award; and

1Whereas, he is a member of Stop Latino on Latino Violence and of the
2Committees on Civil Rights and Better Education; and
SR31,2,63 Whereas, in addition to his contributions to the people of Wisconsin, he
4compiled a distinguished record of service throughout America, culminating in his
5work as a consultant for the National Council of La Raza in Washington D.C.; now,
6therefore, be it
SR31,2,8 7Resolved by the senate, That the members of the senate do hereby
8commemorate the service and contributions of Ernesto Chacon.
