SJR9,1,1 1Relating to: the 2016 Olympic Games being held in Chicago.
SJR9,1,32 Whereas, the Olympic Games are a major international sports and cultural
3festival that all citizens in the global community are invited to celebrate; and
SJR9,1,74 Whereas, the city of Chicago, Illinois, has proposed hosting the summer
5Olympic Games in 2016, and in July 2006 the United States Olympic Committee
6selected Chicago as one of two United States Candidate City finalists for the 2016
7Games; and
SJR9,1,118 Whereas, the goal of the Olympic Movement is to contribute to building a
9peaceful and better world by educating youth through sport practiced without
10discrimination of any kind and in the Olympic spirit, which requires mutual
11understanding with a spirit of friendship, solidarity, and fair play; and
SJR9,1,1512 Whereas, the Chicago 2016 Olympic Games and Paralympic Games will use
13sport as a catalyst to strengthen the Olympic Movement and showcase the city's
14world class, accessible infrastructure, and enthusiastic multicultural community;

1Whereas, the Wisconsin legislature believes that the prospect of the city of
2Chicago hosting the 2016 Olympic Games presents an incredible opportunity to
3promote regional cooperation between Illinois, Wisconsin, and surrounding states;

SJR9,2,65 Whereas, the state of Wisconsin would welcome Olympic athletes and visitors
6to the state's beautiful rivers, lakes, state parks, and other attractions; and
SJR9,2,107 Whereas, the Wisconsin legislature believes that the spirit, principles, and
8ideals underlying the Olympic Games are beneficial to the citizens of this region,
9athletic participants, their sponsoring countries, spectators, and observers around
10the world; now, therefore, be it
SJR9,2,14 11Resolved by the senate, the assembly concurring, That the members of the
12Wisconsin legislature do hereby express support of the spirit, principles, and ideals
13embodied in the Olympic Charter and the development of community exemplified in
14the meeting of athletes from around the world at the Olympic Games; and
SJR9,2,16 15Be it further resolved, That the members of the Wisconsin legislature do fully
16support the city of Chicago in its continuing efforts to host the 2016 Olympic Games.
