SJR79,1,1 1Relating to: the life and military service of Corporal Matthew Ross Zindars.
SJR79,1,52 Whereas, Corporal Matthew Zindars, of Watertown, Wisconsin, was born on
3September 12, 1985, and died on July 24, 2007, following injuries resulting from a
4roadside bomb explosion while on patrol with his unit in the Diyala Province, Iraq;
5and
SJR79,1,86 Whereas, Cpl. Zindars served with honor and distinction in the 2nd Battalion,
711th Marine Regiment, 1st Marine Division, I Marine Expeditionary Force stationed
8in Iraq as a part of Operation Iraqi Freedom and his second tour of duty; and
SJR79,1,119 Whereas, Cpl. Zindars attended Trinity-St. Luke's Grade School and
10graduated from Watertown High School in 2004, where he was an exemplary
11student, friend to many, and known for his kindness and sense of humor; and
SJR79,1,1512 Whereas, while still in high school, Cpl. Zindars fulfilled a childhood dream and
13enlisted with the Marine Corps reflecting his desire to achieve the highest physical
14and mental goals for himself, and to dedicate himself to serving his country with
15honor, compassion, and skill; and

1Whereas, Cpl. Zindars always sought out the most demanding tasks, including
2working with artillery, and as a marine, he exhibited selflessness and patriotism and
3requested a second tour of duty following his first in 2006 because he believed his
4fellow marines and his country needed him; and
SJR79,2,85 Whereas, his life was well-lived and filled with activities like snowboarding,
6skiing, jet skiing, rock climbing, and other games, and he spent time with friends who
7considered him to be the best of the best and family who considered him a model son;
8and
SJR79,2,119 Whereas, Matthew believed in the just cause of bringing liberty to the people
10of Iraq, through his enduring spirit in the hope that they would one day be able to
11embrace the freedom of the life that he so cherished; and
SJR79,2,1412 Whereas, he will forever be remembered as a true hero by those who knew him
13and for his patriotism, determination, selflessness, and his love for family and
14friends; now, therefore, be it
SJR79,2,18 15Resolved by the senate, the assembly concurring, That the members of the
16Wisconsin legislature, on behalf of a grateful state, honor Corporal Matthew Ross
17Zindars for his noble service to our country and extend condolences to his family and
18friends; and, be it further
SJR79,2,22 19Resolved, That the senate chief clerk shall provide a copy of this joint
20resolution to Corporal Zindars' mother, Lynn Zindars, to his father, Kenneth
21Zindars, to his sisters, Tracy Kempf-Reichardt and Jennifer Kempf-Wilson, and to
22his brother, Mark Zindars.
