SJR100,1,42 Whereas, Sgt. 1st Class Lance S. Cornett was born on July 11, 1972, in San
3Diego, California, and died on February 3, 2006, from injuries sustained while
4engaging the enemy during a firefight in the vicinity of Ar Ramadi, Iraq; and
SJR100,1,95 Whereas, Sgt. 1st Class Cornett graduated from Laurel County High School in
6London, Kentucky, and entered the United States Army as an infantryman on
7August 13, 1991, and after completion of initial entry training, was assigned to the
8Headquarters and Headquarters Company, 3rd Battalion, 14th Infantry Brigade,
910th Mountain Division; and
SJR100,1,1510 Whereas, Sgt. 1st Class Cornett also served in 6th Battalion, 101st Aviation
11Regiment, 101st Airborne Division; F Company, 51st Infantry Long Range
12Surveillance Detachment, 519th Military Intelligence Battalion; and Delta
13Company, 4th Ranger Training Brigade and Headquarters and Headquarters
14Company, 4th Ranger Training Brigade, and was assigned to the United States Army
15Special Operations Command, Fort Bragg, North Carolina, in May of 2004; and

1Whereas, Sgt. 1st Class Cornett was awarded the Bronze Star Medal for valor
2(2), the Joint Service Commendation Medal, the Army Commendation Medal (4), the
3Army Achievement Medal (9), the Joint Meritorious Unit Award, the Army Good
4Conduct Medal (4), the National Defense Service Medal with bronze service star, the
5Armed Forces Expeditionary Medal with bronze service star, the Iraq Campaign
6Medal, the Global War on Terrorism Service Medal, the Noncommissioned Officer
7Professional Development Ribbon with numeral three, the Army Service Ribbon, the
8Combat Infantryman Badge, the Expert Infantryman Badge, the Master
9Parachutist Badge, the Pathfinder Badge, the Military Freefall Jumpmaster Badge,
10the Air Assault Badge, the Sapper Tab, the Ranger Tab, the Special Operations Diver
11Badge, and was posthumously awarded the Bronze Star Medal for valor, the Purple
12Heart, and the Defense Meritorious Service Medal; and
SJR100,2,1413 Whereas, Sgt. 1st Class Cornett's family is very proud of him and knows that
14he died doing what he wanted to do: serve the nation and fight for freedom; and
SJR100,2,1715 Whereas, Sgt. 1st Class Cornett embodied the United States Army core values
16of loyalty, duty, respect, selfless service, honor, integrity, and personal courage and
17he will be sorely missed; now, therefore, be it
SJR100,2,21 18Resolved by the senate, the assembly concurring, That the legislature of
19the state of Wisconsin commemorates the remarkable life of Sgt. 1st Class Lance S.
20Cornett and extends its deepest sympathies to his family, friends, and colleagues;
21and, be it further
SJR100,3,2 22Resolved, That the senate chief clerk shall transmit a copy of this joint
23resolution to Sgt. 1st Class Cornett's wife, Sandra Cornett, and to his children,
24Brandy Rudy, Christopher Hart, and Brianna Cornett, who reside in Fayetteville,

1North Carolina; to his father, Rhudell Cornett, of London, Kentucky; and to his
2mother, Karen McMullen, of Pulaski, Wisconsin.
