2007 - 2008 LEGISLATURE
March 10, 2008 - Introduced by Senator Kapanke, cosponsored by Representative
Huebsch. Referred to Committee on Transportation and Tourism.
SB563,1,3 1An Act to renumber and amend 341.14 (6r) (g); and to create 341.14 (6r) (g)
22. of the statutes; relating to: special distinguishing registration plates for fire
3fighters.
Analysis by the Legislative Reference Bureau
Current law allows the Department of Transportation (DOT) to issue special
distinguishing registration plates for certain vehicles to members of certain
authorized special groups enumerated by statute, including fire fighters. If a person
issued special fire fighters' plates is no longer a fire fighter, the person must dispose
of the special fire fighters' plates in a manner prescribed by DOT.
Under this bill, if a fire fighter has been issued special fire fighters' plates and
the fire fighter retires, DOT must allow the fire fighter to retain the special plates.
The retired fire fighter must notify DOT of his or her retirement and intent to retain
the special plates and, upon receiving this notice, DOT must provide to the fire
fighter, to be affixed to each of the special fire fighter plates, two decals displaying
the word "retired."
For further information see the state fiscal estimate, which will be printed as
an appendix to this bill.
