AJR19,1,2 1Relating to: declaring March 25 to 31, 2007, as Veterans of Foreign Wars National
2Home for Children Awareness Week.
AJR19,1,43 Whereas, the Veterans of Foreign Wars established the VFW National Home
4for Children in 1925 to care for the widows and orphans of foreign wars; and
AJR19,1,85 Whereas, through the years, the VFW National Home for Children, located on
6629 acres in rural Eaton Rapids, Michigan, has grown into a campus of 70 buildings,
7including a community center, guest lodge, chapel, 36 individual family homes, and
8administrative buildings; and
AJR19,1,129 Whereas, children, grandchildren, and great-grandchildren of VFW or Ladies
10Auxiliary members are eligible for residence at the VFW National Home for
11Children, either with childcare workers in the residential program or with their
12single parents; and
AJR19,1,1513 Whereas, children and families come to live at the VFW National Home for
14Children because of abuse, neglect, divorce, death, abandonment, or any challenge
15that requires intervention of such a facility; and

1Whereas, these children who come from all across the United States, including
2Wisconsin, are nurtured there, become part of a community, and are prepared for the
3demands of adulthood and citizenship; and
AJR19,2,64 Whereas, the VFW National Home for Children depends in part on donations
5to provide shelter, sustenance, and health care to the children and families of the
6nation's veterans; now, therefore, be it
AJR19,2,10 7Resolved by the assembly, the senate concurring, That the members of the
8Wisconsin legislature express appreciation for the work of the VFW National Home
9for Children and declare the week of March 25 to March 31, 2007, to be VFW National
10Home for Children Week; and, be it further
AJR19,2,13 11Resolved, That the assembly chief clerk shall provide copies of this joint
12resolution to the VFW National Home for Children and to Delores Selle of Turtle
13Lake, President of the VFW Auxiliary for Post 828 of Clear Lake, Wisconsin.
