AJR121,1,32 Whereas, Richard "Dick" Burke, husband of Camille, and father of Kathleen,
3Mary, John, Sharon, and Michele, passed away on Monday, March 10, 2008; and
AJR121,1,64 Whereas, Dick was a hard worker and smart businessman, growing his
5Waterloo, Wisconsin-based Trek Bicycles from its infancy in an old, rented red barn
6to its current status as the world's premiere bicycle manufacturer; and
AJR121,1,97 Whereas, Dick's more than 30 years of commitment to his successful company
8have brought great pride and a significant economic boom to Waterloo, to the
9surrounding area, and to this state; and
AJR121,1,1210 Whereas, Dick's dedication was not only to Trek Bicycles, but to his neighbors,
11giving back whenever possible, to community and charitable organizations
12throughout the state; and
AJR121,1,1413 Whereas, Dick was a constant supporter of education, establishing the Trinity
14Foundation, to support urban education, youth, and leadership development; and

1Whereas, Dick was an advocate and sponsor of Nativity Jesuit Middle School,
2which seeks to educate Latino boys for lives of Christian leadership and service; and
AJR121,2,53 Whereas, Dick set up several scholarship programs at Marquette University,
4Mount Mary College, and Alverno College: dedicated to developing future leaders
5with a commitment to social justice; and
AJR121,2,76 Whereas, with all of his achievements, Dick was most proud of his children;
7gifted, contributing members of our state, in their own right; and
AJR121,2,98 Whereas, Dick leaves behind this lasting legacy of business savvy,
9civic-mindedness, and devotion to God and family; now, therefore, be it
AJR121,2,13 10Resolved by the assembly, the senate concurring, That the members of the
11Wisconsin legislature commend all that Richard "Dick" Burke contributed to this
12state and his community, express their sorrow at his passing, and extend their
13condolences to his family and friends; and, be it further
AJR121,2,16 14Resolved, That the assembly chief clerk shall provide a copy of this joint
15resolution to Dick's wife, Camille, and his five children, Kathleen, Mary, John,
16Sharon, and Michele.
