Whereas, the University of Wisconsin-Stevens Point men's basketball team
4won the NCAA Division III National Championship, defeating defending champion
5Williams College 84 to 82 on March 20, 2004, in Salem, Virginia; and

6Whereas, the UWSP Pointers set a school record with 29 victories and tied a
7NCAA Division III record with 34 games played; and

8Whereas, the UWSP Pointers won the 2004 Wisconsin Intercollegiate Athletic
9Conference Tournament Title; and

10Whereas, the UWSP Pointers have been in the NCAA Division III rankings for
1146 consecutive polls; and

Whereas, the UWSP Pointers ranked 4th in NCAA Division III field goal
13percentage with 50.9, and shot 56.3 percent in 6 NCAA tournament games; and

Whereas, throughout the season, the UWSP Pointers thrilled their fans,
15inspired their community, and brought pride to the state of Wisconsin; and

1Whereas, the 2004 UWSP Pointers will forever be remembered as a team that
2relied on teamwork, sportsmanship, determination, and courage to achieve a
3national championship; now, therefore be it

4Resolved by the assembly, the senate concurring, That the members of the
5Wisconsin assembly congratulate the University of Wisconsin-Stevens Point men's
6basketball team and Coach Jack Bennett for their remarkable season and wish them
7continued success; and, be it further

8Resolved, That the assembly chief clerk shall provide a copy of this joint
9resolution to each of the UWSP Pointer coaches and players.
