SB399,1,2 1An Act to amend 979.10 (1) (a) (intro.) of the statutes; relating to: cremation

Under current law, no person may cremate a corpse unless the following two
conditions are met: 1) at least 48 hours have elapsed since the deceased person died
or the corpse was discovered, and 2) the coroner or medical examiner has certified
that he or she has viewed the corpse, made inquiry in to the cause and manner of the
the person's death, and has concluded that no further examination or judicial inquiry
is necessary.
This bill eliminates the requirement that a person wait 48 hours to cremate a
corpse and allows cremation upon certification of the coroner or medical examiner.
The people of the state of Wisconsin, represented in senate and assembly, do
enact as follows:
