SJR6,1,63 Whereas, the water within the Great Lakes basin is a precious natural resource
4that needs to be carefully and cooperatively managed and protected to meet existing
5and future water needs within the Great Lakes basin and the Canadian provinces;
6and
SJR6,1,97 Whereas, any new diversions of Great Lakes waters for use outside of the Great
8Lakes basin will have significant adverse effects on the environment, economy and
9welfare of the Great Lakes region; and
SJR6,1,1110 Whereas, the government of Canada has considered authorizing a company to
11divert water from the Great Lakes to sell in Asia; and
SJR6,2,212 Whereas, as trustees of the Great Lakes basin's natural resources, the United
13States government, the Canadian government, the Great Lakes states and
14Canadian provinces have a shared duty to protect, conserve and manage the waters

1of the Great Lakes basin for the future use, benefit and enjoyment of all of their
2citizens; now, therefore, be it
SJR6,2,7 3Resolved by the senate, the assembly concurring, That the members of the
4Wisconsin legislature call upon the Congress and President of the United States and
5the Parliament and Prime Minister of Canada to act to prohibit the sale or diversion
6of Great Lakes water to foreign countries, businesses, corporations and individuals;
7and, be it further
SJR6,2,10 8Resolved, That the senate chief clerk shall provide a copy of this joint
9resolution to each member of the Wisconsin congressional delegation, to the
10President of the United States and to the Prime Minister of Canada.
