SB282,1,3 1An Act to amend 23.50 (1) and 23.65 (1); and to create 23.51 (2r) of the statutes;
2relating to: procedures to recover forfeitures for injury caused by dogs to
3certain wildlife.
Analysis by the Legislative Reference Bureau
Current law sets forth a procedure to recover forfeitures for violations of fish
and game laws and certain other laws, most of which are administered by the
department of natural resources. Under this bill, this separate procedure applies to
citations and court actions to recover forfeitures for dogs causing injury to deer, game
birds or the nest or eggs of game birds.

The people of the state of Wisconsin, represented in senate and assembly, do
enact as follows:
SB282, s. 1 4Section 1. 23.50 (1) of the statutes is amended to read:
SB282,2,105 23.50 (1) The procedure in ss. 23.50 to 23.85 applies to all actions in circuit
6court to recover forfeitures, penalty assessments, jail assessments, applicable
7weapons assessments, applicable environmental assessments, applicable wild

1animal protection assessments, applicable natural resources assessments,
2applicable fishing shelter removal assessments, applicable snowmobile registration
3restitution payments and applicable natural resources restitution payments for
4violations of ss. 77.09, 134.60, 144.783 (2), 167.10 (3), 167.31 (2), 174.02 (2) (a) and
5(b), if the injury is to deer, game birds or the nests or eggs of game birds,

10enacted by any local authority in accordance with s. 23.33 (11) (am) or 30.77.
SB282, s. 2 11Section 2. 23.51 (2r) of the statutes is created to read:
SB282,2,1312 23.51 (2r) "Deer" does not include farm-raised deer, as defined in s. 95.001 (1)
13(a).
SB282, s. 3 14Section 3. 23.65 (1) of the statutes is amended to read:
SB282,2,2015 23.65 (1) When it appears to the district attorney that a violation of s. 134.60,
16144.783 (2), 174.02 (2) (a) and (b), if the injury is to deer, game birds or the nests or
