AJR92,1,32 Whereas, Wisconsin's sesquicentennial year is an appropriate time to reflect on
3the impressive list of Wisconsin innovations; and
AJR92,1,84 Whereas, among Wisconsin's legislative innovations are the first acts to provide
5worker's compensation, to create a workable income tax, to provide unemployment
6compensation, to discontinue legal discrimination against women, to provide
7continuing aid to persons who have disabilities, to provide for the administration of
8apprenticeships and to create a large private school voucher program; and
AJR92,1,119 Whereas, among Wisconsin's innovations in education are the first
10kindergarten, the first agricultural experiment station and the first university
11extension courses; and
AJR92,1,1512 Whereas, Wisconsin was the first state to establish a comprehensive labor
13department, to prohibit discrimination on the basis of race or national origin in
14hiring teachers, to permit public employes to bargain collectively and to establish a
15state building code; and

1Whereas, among this state's achievements in transportation are the first
2automobile race, the first system for numbering highways, the first successful
3electric street railway and the first bikeway that spanned a state; and
AJR92,2,64 Whereas, Wisconsinites invented the typewriter, a milk tester, a
5gasoline-powered farm tractor, the outboard motor, the automobile speedometer and
6the automatic clothes dryer; and
AJR92,2,107 Whereas, the first radio station, the first hydroelectric plant and the first state
8historical society opened in Wisconsin, the Republican Party was formed in
9Wisconsin and the first Super Bowl was won by the Green Bay Packers; now,
10therefore, be it
AJR92,2,14 11Resolved by the assembly, the senate concurring, That the members of the
12Wisconsin legislature salute the Wisconsinites who are responsible for these and
13other notable innovations and look forward to even more Wisconsin firsts; and, be it
14further
AJR92,2,16 15Resolved, That the assembly chief clerk shall provide a copy of this joint
16resolution to the Wisconsin Sesquicentennial Commission.
