AJR87,1,22 Whereas, on April 6, 1320, the Scots declared their independence; and
AJR87,1,43 Whereas, that declaration included the noble words "we fight not for glory, nor
4riches, nor honours, but for freedom alone"; and
AJR87,1,75 Whereas, April 6 is beginning to be recognized as Tartan Day, a day to celebrate
6not only that declaration but also the contributions that persons of Scottish descent
7have made to this country; and
AJR87,1,108 Whereas, among those contributions are helping to form this country, as
9evidence by the fact that nearly half of the signers of the Declaration of Independence
10were of Scottish descent; and
AJR87,1,1311 Whereas, Neil Armstrong, Alexander Graham Bell, Thomas Alva Edison,
12Katherine Hepburn, Edgar Allen Poe and James McNeil Whistler are among the
13many notable Scottish-Americans; and
AJR87,1,1514 Whereas, one acting governor of this state, Arthur MacArthur, and one
15governor, William Smith, were born in Scotland; now, therefore, be it

1Resolved by the assembly, the senate concurring, That the members of the
2Wisconsin legislature declare April 6 "Tartan Day", urge the people of this state to
3recognize the significance of that date and to celebrate it and express their
4appreciation for the contributions that Scottish-Americans have made to this state
5and nation.
