2007 Senate Joint Resolution 41
ENROLLED JOINT RESOLUTION
Relating to: the life and service of Specialist Grant A. Dampier of the United States Army.
Whereas, United States Army Specialist Grant A. Dampier was born on July 8, 1980, in Wisconsin Rapids and died from wounds received when an improvised explosive device exploded near the vehicle on which Specialist Dampier was serving as a gunner during combat operations May 15, 2006, in Balad, Iraq; and
Whereas, Specialist Grant A. Dampier, of Merrill, Wisconsin, a member of the 1st Battalion, 8th Infantry Regiment, 3rd Heavy Brigade Combat Team of Fort Carson, Colorado, proudly and faithfully served the people of Wisconsin and the United States with distinction and honor in support of Operation Iraqi Freedom; and
Whereas, Specialist Grant A. Dampier was a wrestler for, and year 2000 graduate of, Merrill High School, worked for Marathon Electric in Wausau, and enjoyed the Green Bay Packers, off-road truck racing, and fishing; and
Whereas, Specialist Grant A. Dampier loved his family, wife Heidi and 3 daughters Alexis, Starr, and Kylee, he took great delight in fishing with his daughters on the Wisconsin River, and enlisted in the United States Army in September of 2004 in order that his daughters would look up to him and be proud of their father; and
Whereas, Specialist Grant A. Dampier is survived by his wife Heidi, his daughters Alexis, Starr, and Kylee, his mother and stepfather Karen and Pat Goulee of Merrill, his father and stepmother Richard and Gwen Dampier of Mosinee, his brother and sister Jamie and Rae Ann Dampier, and 5 half-brothers and one half-sister; and
Whereas, Specialist Grant A. Dampier made the ultimate sacrifice for his country while advancing the cause of freedom for the Iraqi people and will always be remembered for his loyalty and duty and will never be forgotten; and
Whereas, Specialist Grant A. Dampier was laid to rest on May 26th, 2006, at the Merrill Memorial Park Cemetery in Merrill, Wisconsin; now, therefore, be it
Resolved by the senate, the assembly concurring, That the members of the Wisconsin state legislature commend the remarkable life of United States Army Specialist Grant A. Dampier, express their sorrow at his death, and extend their condolences to his family and friends; and, be it further
Resolved, That the senate chief clerk shall transmit a copy of this joint resolution to Specialist Dampier's wife Heidi and 3 daughters Alexis, Starr, and Kylee of Merrill, his mother and stepfather Karen and Pat Goulee of Merrill, his father and stepmother Richard and Gwen Dampier of Mosinee, his brother and sister Jamie and Rae Ann Dampier, and his 5 half-brothers and one half-sister.
