2003 Assembly Joint Resolution 24
ENROLLED JOINT RESOLUTION
Relating to: commending Tom Crean for being named Conference USA Coach of the Year.
Whereas, Tom Crean has compiled an exemplary record in his 4 years as head coach of the Marquette University men's basketball team; and
Whereas, Crean guided the Marquette team to its first-ever regular season Conference USA title; and
Whereas, the men's basketball team finished an extremely successful season with an overall record of 23-4, an extraordinary 15-1 home record, and victories in 15 of its last 16 games; and
Whereas, Marquette ended the regular season ranked 8th in the country, its highest rating in over 20 years; and
Whereas, Crean's team averaged 78.5 points a game, its highest total in over 30 years, and led the conference in free-throw percentage at 76.5%; and
Whereas, Marquette has the 7th highest Ratings Percentage Index (RPI), a measure of overall winning percentage and strength of schedule, in the nation, and defeated 2 major conference champions during the regular season; and
Whereas, the Marquette men's basketball team earned the number one seed for its conference tournament and is poised to make its 2nd consecutive appearance in the NCAA tournament; and
Whereas, Coach Crean has an overall record of 79-39 (.669) in his 4 years with Marquette, including a 48-11 mark in the last 2 years; and
Whereas, Tom Crean was named the Conference USA Ray Meyer Coach of the Year for back-to-back seasons, only the 2nd coach to be so honored; now, therefore, be it
Resolved by the assembly, the senate concurring, That the members of the Wisconsin legislature commend Mr. Tom Crean on his success as head coach of the Marquette men's basketball team and as a leader both on and off the court; and, be it further
Resolved, That the assembly chief clerk shall provide a copy of this joint resolution to Mr. Crean.
