4committee is requested to, and may, direct the legislative audit bureau to perform a
5financial, management, and performance evaluation audit of the operations and
6administration of the department of transportation. If the audit is undertaken, the
7legislative audit bureau shall determine the costs and benefits of the operations and
8administration of the department of transportation, including a review of its
9operations and administration relative to the operations and administration of
10appropriate departments or agencies in other states having transportation-related
11responsibilities. If the joint legislative audit committee directs the legislative audit

1bureau to perform an audit, the bureau shall file its report as described under section
213.94 (1) (b) of the statues by June 30, 2004.".
