AB208-ASA1,1,2 1An Act to amend 15.91 of the statutes; relating to: appointment of student
2members of the Board of Regents of the University of Wisconsin System.
Analysis by the Legislative Reference Bureau
Under current law, the Board of Regents of the University of Wisconsin System
(board) consists of the state superintendent of public instruction, the president or
another member of the Technical College System Board, 14 citizen members, and a
student member who is at least 18 years old.
Beginning on May 1, 2004, this bill changes the board's membership by adding
a student member who is at least 24 years old and represents the views of
nontraditional students, such as those who are employed or who are parents.
The people of the state of Wisconsin, represented in senate and assembly, do
enact as follows:
AB208-ASA1, s. 1 3Section 1. 15.91 of the statutes is amended to read:
AB208-ASA1,2,13 415.91 Board of regents of the University of Wisconsin System; creation.
5There is created a board of regents of the University of Wisconsin System consisting
6of the state superintendent of public instruction, the president, or by his or her

1designation another member, of the technical college system board and 14 citizen
2members appointed for staggered 7-year terms, and a student 2 students enrolled
3at least half-time and in good academic standing at an institution institutions
4within the University of Wisconsin System who is at least 18 years old and a resident
5are residents of this state, for a 2-year term. The terms. The student member
6members may be selected from recommendations made by elected representatives
7of student governments at institutions within the University of Wisconsin System.
8The governor shall appoint one student member who is at least 18 years old and one
9undergraduate student member who is at least 24 years old and represents the views
10of nontraditional students, such as those who are employed or are parents.
The
11governor may not appoint a student member from the same institution in any 2
12consecutive terms. If the a student member loses the status upon which the
13appointment was based, he or she shall cease to be a member of the board of regents.
