SB565-SSA1-SA10,1,11 At the locations indicated, amend the substitute amendment as follows:
SB565-SSA1-SA10,1,3 21. Page 4, line 13: after the semicolon insert: "equipping state traffic patrol
3officers with bulletproof garments;".
SB565-SSA1-SA10,1,4 42. Page 37, line 3: after that line insert:
SB565-SSA1-SA10,1,5 5" Section 52g. 110.07 (3) of the statutes is amended to read:
SB565-SSA1-SA10,1,156 110.07 (3) The secretary may employ inspectors who may not wear the uniform
7of the state patrol, whose duties shall be to enforce and assist in administering s.
8346.63, this chapter and chs. 194, 218, 340 to 345 and 347 to 351, s. 23.33, the
9inspection requirements of s. 121.555 (2) (b) and the requirements under s. 346.45
10(4) for vehicles being used to transport hazardous materials. Such inspectors, in the
11performance of these duties, shall have the powers and authority of state traffic
12officers. For the purpose of death, disability and retirement coverage, such
13inspectors shall be subject to ch. 40 as is the state traffic patrol. The Subject to sub.
14(5), the
secretary may clothe and equip inspectors as the interest of public safety and
15their duties require.

1Section 52m. 110.07 (5) of the statutes is created to read:
SB565-SSA1-SA10,2,32 110.07 (5) (a) In this subsection, "bulletproof garment" has the meaning given
3in s. 939.64 (1).
SB565-SSA1-SA10,2,114 (b) Upon request of an officer of the state traffic patrol under sub. (1) or
5inspector under sub. (3), the department shall make available to the traffic officer or
6inspector a bulletproof garment that may be used in the performance of his or her
7duties under this section. The department shall equip a traffic officer or inspector
8with a bulletproof garment as soon as practicable after receipt of the request from
9the traffic officer or inspector under this paragraph, provided that each traffic officer
10or inspector who has made a request before September 1, 1997, shall be equipped
11with a bulletproof garment by that date.".

SB565-SSA1-SA10,2,18 14(1p) Bulletproof garments. In the schedule under section 20.005 (3) of the
15statutes for the appropriation to the department of transportation under section
1620.395 (5) (dq) of the statutes, as affected by the acts of 1995, the dollar amount is
17increased by $75,000 for fiscal year 1995-96 to increase funding for bulletproof
18garments for state traffic patrol officers and motor vehicle inspectors.".
